The short version
- We don’t see what you watch. Your streams go straight from your provider to your device.
- Logins and passwords you save are locked away. Nobody can read them back, including us.
- We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use ad trackers.
Who’s responsible
Gander Labs, a sole proprietorship in Ontario, Canada, runs Nixis and is responsible for your information. Privacy questions go to [email protected].
What we keep
- Your account. Your email address, and your name if you give it. If you run a reseller business, its name, logo and colors, and the emails of people you invite.
- Your devices. Each paired device’s ID, the names and notes you give it, when it was paired and when it last checked in, and its viewing profiles. We keep a scrambled copy of each device’s secret so we know it’s really yours.
- Your logins. Provider logins, playlists and media server connections you save here. These are encrypted the moment you save them, and the website can never show them again. We only send them to your own devices.
- Your PIN. We keep a scrambled version that can check a PIN but can’t be turned back into it.
- Signing in. The IP address and browser of each signed-in session, so you stay signed in and we can spot misuse.
- Billing. Your plan, what you’ve paid and when, and your billing address and country for tax. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us.
- A history of changes. Things like a device being added or a plan changing, so we can help when something goes wrong.
We don’t collect what channels, shows or movies you watch. The app doesn’t report that back to us.
Why we keep it
- To run your account and send each device what it needs to play.
- To email you sign-in links, receipts, and important notices about your account or these policies.
- To take payments and meet tax and accounting rules.
- To keep Nixis secure and stop abuse.
We only use your information for these things. We don’t send marketing emails unless you’ve asked for them.
Who else sees it
We share only what each of these needs to do its job for us:
- Stripe handles payments, billing addresses and tax.
- Resend sends our emails, like your sign-in links.
- Our hosting provider runs the servers that store Nixis’s data.
If someone set up your TV for you, like a reseller, they can see that TV’s name, note and status in their dashboard. They can’t see your account or what you watch.
We’ll also share information if the law requires it. If Nixis is ever sold, your information would go with it, still under this policy.
Some of these providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it’s covered by local law.
Cookies
We use one kind of cookie: the one that keeps you signed in. No ad cookies, no tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics.
How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep what it needs to work.
- If your plan ends, we keep your devices, logins and profiles for 12 months in case you come back.
- When you delete your account, we delete its information, except billing records we’re required to keep for tax, usually up to 7 years.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you what we have about you, fix anything that’s wrong, send you a copy, or delete your account and its information. Just email [email protected] from the address on your account. We’ll reply within 30 days.
If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled something, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, in the EU or UK, to your local data protection authority.
Keeping it safe
Saved logins are encrypted, PINs and device secrets are scrambled, and the website only talks over secure connections. No system is perfect, but if something ever goes wrong that puts your information at risk, we’ll tell you.
Kids
Nixis accounts are for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll email you before it takes effect.
